Hello students,

I'm Ms. Nalley your Centennial Music Teacher. Welcome to music class, where your voice is your favorite instrument and singing out loud is highly encouraged—even if your dog isn’t impressed yet!

I’m so excited to explore the world of music with you. We’ll sing, play, move, and create together while learning that music is fun, expressive, and something we can all enjoy.

No matter your experience, there’s a place for you here, and I can’t wait to see the amazing things you’ll discover—and maybe even hear a few off-key solos along the way!

Ms. Nalley

Welcome to Music Class!

The Plano Independent School District uses the Kodály (Ko-die) Method of music instruction. This Hungarian-based approach is designed to develop strong music literacy through the use of folk songs and the child’s own singing voice.

Through the Kodály Method, students learn to understand music as a language—one they can read, write, and think about, just as they do with spoken and written language. Instruction follows a developmental and sequential process, with new musical concepts introduced at each grade level while continually reinforcing and practicing previously learned skills.

Our goal is to nurture confident, musical learners who experience joy in singing, listening, and making music—building a strong foundation that supports lifelong musical understanding and appreciation.

What We Do in Music Class

In music class, students learn by singing, moving, playing, and creating! We explore music in fun and engaging ways that help every child grow as a musician. Here’s what students can expect:

  • Sing every day to learn songs, rhythms, and melodies
  • Clap, tap, and move to explore beats and rhythms
  • Read and write music using age-appropriate symbols and notes
  • Play instruments like rhythm sticks, drums, and xylophones
  • Listen to music and talk about what we hear
  • Play music games that make practicing skills fun
  • Create and explore music through movement, improvisation, and creativity
  • Music class is a place where students discover the joy of music, build confidence, and make lasting memories along the way!
